Skip the Drive, Catch a Ride
Forget about the high cost of gas and dealing with bad drivers. The new MV Shuttle will get you around town for free—without the hassles. The shuttles, which are smaller than typical transit buses and run on low-emission compressed natural gas (CNG), make stops at the new colorful signs located around town. You can ride them from the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Metrolink train station to Lake Mission Viejo, with stops including The Shops at Mission Viejo, Mission Hospital, Saddleback College, Capistrano Valley High School, Mission Viejo High School, the Norman P. Murray Community Center, City Hall/Library and the YMCA/Marguerite Aquatics/Tennis Pavilion. MV Shuttle runs regularly from about 6:30 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Friday (except holidays). All aboard! Shelter serenades
They say music soothes the savage beast. How about pets that land at the local shelter? Twelve-year-old Houston whiz kid Yuvi Agarwal says “absolutely.” Mission Viejo Animal Services Center has now adopted Wild Tunes, a heartwarming program created by Yuvi. The nonprofit brings volunteer musicians to play soothing melodies for stressed shelter animals, helping them associate humans with good vibes and boosting their adoption chances. The musical magic at our shelter began on August 5, and all musicians are welcome to volunteer. Whether you strum guitar, tickle the ivories or croon the Great American songbook, your talents can make tails wag and hearts heal. More info. 28095 Hillcrest.

Do you know a remarkable businesswoman here in town? The Mission Viejo Chamber of Commerce wants to know about her! The Chamber is currently seeking nominations for its 2025 Outstanding Women in Business Awards. Noms are welcomed through August 29 for businesswomen who excel through innovation, dedication and community support. Ideal candidates demonstrate strong leadership in their careers, and possess additional qualities that set them apart in their field. This year’s honorees will be celebrated at the Women in Business Awards Luncheon on October 22 from 11 AM to 1:30 PM at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club. More info.
Your passport to adventure begins at the library
Dreaming of that European getaway? Our library has got you covered. Mission Viejo residents can book an appointment at the library’s passport desk up to a week ahead—with no waiting in long lines! Keep in mind that whether you’re 8 or 80, passport applications are always done in person. If you have kids 15 and under, both parents must come along with their IDs. For teens 16-17, just one parent will do. The library’s passport desk is open Mon-Sat. More info. 200 Civic Center.

From TV dreams to real-life healing
As a boy, Karl Gebhard was enamored with the vintage doctor’s bag carried by Doc Baker on TV’s Little House on the Prairie. After graduating medical school and completing his residency, Dr. Gebhard met Thorild Ross, MD, a family doctor practicing in Mission Viejo. Dr. Ross regaled him with stories about doctors who would ride horses to Mission Hospital and tie them to a hitching post next to the parking lot—just the environment Dr. Gebhard envisioned for himself. Today, Dr. Gebhard heads up Ross Legacy Medical Group in the Oso Medical Plaza, carrying on Dr. Ross’s commitment to combining traditional patient care with modern medicine. “I make an honest effort to get to know my patients and become an ongoing part of their lives,” he says.
